FAQ
TOEFL FAQ
Test of English as a Foreign Language is a standardized test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers wishing to enroll in U.S. universities. The test is accepted by many English-speaking academic and professional institutions. Also, it is one of the two major English-language tests in the world.
First of all, you have to check the iBT score you need for each university of application. The grade scale varies from 0-120, a generally acceptable score to have would be around 90-100. Our students constantly have a score above 100. In many cases universities lay special emphasis on Reading and Writing scores. A number of universities set a minimum score for those 2 sections.
This new feature combines your best scores for each section from all of your valid TOEFL iBT scores in the last 2 years. Everyone has a bad day once in a while, and MyBest™ scores give you a way to show your best overall test performance. You don’t have to do anything to take advantage of this feature. All TOEFL iBT score reports sent after August 1, 2019, regardless of the test administration date, will automatically include MyBest scores along with the traditional scores from your selected test date.
I want to apply at English speaking institutions in Europe and the States. Do I need TOEFL or IELTS?
British universities prefer IELTS, and the rest of the European Universities accept both. All the institutions in the States accept the TOEFL.
Yes, unless you have a Proficiency received in the past 2 years with a score above B.
It is very important that the computer simulation is based on real past papers, as the simulations made by big publishing firms vary in difficulty from the real test.
The NEW total time is just under 2 hours. All the sections are computerized, even the Speaking. You don’t talk to an examiner, but to a computer.
You should take the TOEFL as early as possible before the graduate school application deadlines. Some universities may also accept pending scores; so that gives you some extra time to prepare.
TOEFL Scheduling Fee: US$245.00

Common European TOEFL level required by academic institutions for admission
- Most colleges use TOEFL scores as only one factor in their admission process.
- Each college or program within a college often has a minimum TOEFL score required.
- The minimum TOEFL iBT scores range from 61 (Bowling Green State University) to 100 (MIT, Columbia, Harvard).
- A sampling of required TOEFL admissions scores shows that a total TOEFL iBT score of 74.2 for undergraduate admissions and 82.6 for graduate admissions may be required.
- It is recommended that students check with their prospective institutions directly to understand TOEFL admissions requirements.
